Nokia's First Dual sim mobile c1

Nokia has announced the launch of its first dual SIM handsets in India. This launch comes a few months after the initial announcement regarding Nokia foray in to the highly competitive dual SIM segment in the country.

The dual SIM range in India is mostly dominated by smaller players and unbranded Chinese phones so far and have proved to be extremely popular amongst the masses. Even mainstream manufacturers like Samsung and LG have dual SIM handsets in their kitty. Nokia, however, had stayed back and decided to be a silent spectator until now.

As for the new launches, the phones in question are the C1-00 and C2. The Nokia C1-00 costs Rs. 1,999 and  boasts of  basic features like a 128 x 160 pixels TFT color screen, 3.5mm headset jack, FM radio, SMS, flashlight. It offers up to six weeks of stand-by time. The C1-00 can take in two SIM cards but only one would be active at any given point of time. Users can switch from one SIM to another with the flick of a switch. As mentioned earlier, The C1-00 offers users a standby battery time of up to six weeks, the longest ever for a Nokia mobile phone, especially useful in those parts of the world where access to electricity is limited.

Next is the Nokia C2 which is expected to be priced at around Rs. 2,500 (the official price is yet to be revealed). It will run on the Nokia S40 platform and allows both SIM cards to be used together. This phone also supports GPRS, Nokia Life Tools, Stereo FM radio with FM recording, 3.5mm headset jack, VGA photo camera, and MicroSD card support. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the battery and the second is 'hot-swappable', a feature unique to Nokia. This means the second SIM card can be removed and inserted when the phone is on. It can also take microSD cards of up to 32GB!

While you can buy a C1-00 now, Nokia is yet to officially launch its other dual SIM handsets here. You might want to read more about each one of them here.

India's first e-reader Wink unveiled

Bangalore-based digital publisher EC Media International has launched its multi-function e-book reader Wink that not only supports 15 languages but will also offer over 200,000 book titles on debut.

Wink will offer consumers a one-stop e-store to access e-reading content of choice via www.thewinkstore.com that would enable access not just to e-books, but also journals, newspapers, magazines and selected articles, EC Media said.

Many of the titles have been acquired from international aggregators, giving Indians access to a whole lot of books not available in the country. "With the launch of Wink, we aim to revolutionise the way people read," said Ravi DeeCee, founder and chief executive of DC Group, which has promoted EC Media and the Kerala-based publishing house DC Books.

"Wink will allow readers to access their favourite content anytime, anywhere, that, too, in the language of their choice," he said.

Another offering will be Wink Wire for news, the first e-reader newspaper in India. EC Media has entered into a content alliance with IANS, India's largest independent news service, for Wink Wire.

EC Media's e-reader itself is designed primarily for reading digital books and periodicals but users can also listen to music, check e-mails or even play games, executives said.

This e-reader uses e-ink technology to display content to readers, and the main advantages of these features are portability, strain-free reading even in bright sunlight and substantial battery life.

"With the launch of Wink, we want to enable the growth of content provisioning through electronic medium by leveraging existing eco-system of global tie-ups with publishers and aggregators," said Pradeep Palazhi, chief operating officer of EC Media. "We hope to succeed in attaining this vision."

The group also aims to help publishers and authors leverage the new platform, simplifying the process of publishing -- from the draft of a book to its final printing, besides also helping them to reach out to a larger audience.

Wink has enrolled top publishers like Penguin, Roli, Oxford University, Harper Collins and Permanent Black for content so far. It will provide access to over 100,000 tiles to begin with, along with some newspapers and magazines.

The group has also announced a tie-up with Croma, the electronics megastore promoted by the Tata Group, as its retail partner. It has also roped in Redington as its distribution partner. "From a consumer perspective, it's going to be a resourceful investment. It will certainly enhance their reading experience with a variety of offerings," said Ajit Joshi, chief executive of Croma Electronics Megastore.

Explaining how the e-reader works, officials said a user can access the online store from the web or through the catalogue present on the gadget, intuitively designed for easy preview of content, downloads and a secure payment gateway.

The Wink store will have a strong base of regional language content on top of a wide-variety of international titles and category of e-books. Members will be able to avail of special deals and discounts on the store, they added. !-- START ADONION CODE -->

India to become world's third largest economy by 2030

Hawksworth, an economist based in London, projects that India will become the third-largest economy racing past Japan. According to him, after 2020, India will grow more quickly than China because it will have a younger and faster-growing population. He added that the Chinese growth will begin to slow after 2020 because of its rapidly aging population.

India's growth can be accredited to pharmaceuticals, power, telecommunications, civil aviation, insurance and real estate and an increasing foreign direct investment influx. As per an internal survey, India's working age population is expected to grow continuously over the next 40 years.

One prime factor for India's development will be the consumer base which is much higher as compared to China and thus a better invested capital.

According to the International Monetary Fund Estimates, the Chinese economy will total about $5.4 trillion this year, while the U.S. one will be about $14.8 trillion - almost three times the size of the Chinese economy. To catch the U.S.China will have to grow extremely fast while the U.S. economy dawdles.

For China to catch the U.S. in 10 years, its economy would have to grow at more than 12 percent per annum, for example, while the U.S. grows at 2 percent, Bryson estimates. However, most economists say, it is unlikely that China will have sustained growth that high and the U.S. will be that low.

Now control your Android phone with your voice

Google has released a new mobile app, called Voice Actions, for the Android mobile phones. This new app allows you to control your phone via interactive voice commands. With this app at your service, you can perform the common Android actions by just 'talking' to the phone.

The new feature was described in the Official Google Blog. Google said, "Our mobile phones have become modern-day Swiss Army knives. An Android phone is a handheld computer, a music player, a notepad, a GPS navigation unit and more, all rolled into one sleek device that fits in your pocket. Even though our phones do all these new things, the most natural way of interacting with a phone remains what it always has been: speaking. And to that end, we're pleased to introduce Voice Actions for Android."

With the help of Voice Actions, you can browse the web, listen to music, send texts and emails, and call businesses and contacts. However, to use the app, it is necessary to activate the 'Speak Now' screen on the phone physical search button or tap the microphone button that is displayed on the search box of Google on the user's home screen. Other things that Voice Actions allows users to do is navigate to a location or get a map or directions, record a note to self, set alarms etc.

The thing to be noted here is that Voice Actions would require Android 2.2 (Froyo) to run. Froyo will come pre-installed with the new Droid 2 phones from Motorola. !-- START ADONION CODE -->

Indians never called U.S. as 'banana republic'

Since Indians never call U.S. a 'banana republic' the U.S. senator shouldn't have called one of our companies a 'chop shop'.

"Indian IT industry has made notable contribution and has acknowledged global presence." It is a foolishness to call Indians companies as "Chop Shop".

Criticising companies outsourcing American jobs, Schumer had last week described Infosys as a "chop shop", a place where stolen cars are dismantled and parts sold separately.

Trojan-SMS virus attacks Android handsets

Anti-virus specialist Kaspersky Labs has found its first reported case of a Trojan-SMS that attacks Android handsets recently. There have been cases of the same type of malware on non-smartphones, but this is the first targeted at users of Google's operating system.

"The IT market research and analysis organization IDC has noted that those selling devices running Android are experiencing the highest growth in sales among smartphone manufacturers. As a result, we can expect to see a corresponding rise in the amount of malware targeting that platform," says Denis Maslennikov, the company's Mobile Research Group manager.

The virus, Trojan-SMS.AndroidOS.FakePlayer.a, comes disguised as a media player application and prompts users to install a file of just over 13 KB with the standard Android extension .APK. It then uses the phone to send multiple SMS text messages to premium rate numbers without the owner's knowledge. Obviously, this could end up costing the handset owner a fortune, and make a packet for scrupulous cybercriminals.

"Kaspersky Lab is actively developing technologies and solutions to protect this operating system and plans to release Kaspersky Mobile Security for Android in early 2011," added Maslennikov.

U.S. Senator calls Infy as "chop shop" - a shop that sells stolen goods

Criticizing companies outsourcing highly-paid American jobs, a U.S. Senator has described Indian IT major Infosys as a "chop shop", a place where stolen cars are dismantled and parts sold separately. A U.S. senator supported raising H1-B visa fees for them to raise $600 million to secure the porous U.S.-Mexican border.

This is highly humiliating statements from the senate friends .........
Everybody knows that who is benefited by whom........
Indian IT companies are not going to loose anything..........
First of all they are suffering from recession ,if they are going to apply these rules they will definitely repent for their mistakes in the future.

HOT SPOT - Now its not just cricket....lets call it " TechnoCricket!"

'Hot Spot' technology is to be added to the permitted decision-making aids at the disposal of the third umpire in the second and third Tests between South Africa and Australia.

The International Cricket Council on Wednesday confirmed the addition to its ongoing technology trial in Test matches.

Third-umpire referrals caused much controversy in the recently-concluded fourth Test between West Indies and England in Bridgetown, thanks to a succession of debatable lbw rulings.

'Hot Spot' was not available to Daryl Harper at the Kensington Oval, where it was the absence of 'predictive Hawkeye' from the third umpire's armoury which was the main bone of contention.

Whereas that facility would have made it easier for Harper to advise his colleagues on the likely track of the ball had it not first hit the batsman's pad, 'Hot Spot' indicates, using infra-red cameras, the ball's exact point of impact with bat, pad, glove or ground.

Looking forward to a 'Hot Spot' debut in Durban on Friday, ICC general manager - cricket David Richardson explained: "By having 'Hot Spot' available, it means the television official will have even more information at his disposal if he is called upon, via a request for a review, to assist the on-field umpires with a decision. That has to be a good thing."

"It also means that when the ICC cricket committee meets in May to consider the issue of the technology trial it will have a much more complete picture of the aids available for use and whether, and if so how well, they worked in a match situation."

"The key purposes of the technology trial are to see if we can lift the already-high percentage of correct decisions made by our umpires and also eradicate the rare occasions when a clearly incorrect decision has been made."

"We hope 'Hot Spot' can play a part over the next two Tests in Durban and Cape Town in establishing whether technology has a role to play in helping achieve those aims."

The third official in Durban will be Steve Bucknor, and the on-field umpires will be Asad Rauf and Billy Bowden.

Profiles of 100 million Facebook users leaked online

A security researcher on Wednesday released a file containing the names, profile addresses and unique identification numbers of more than 100 million Facebook users. The information was corralled via a public directory Facebook makes available that lists users who are sharing at least some of their profile information with everyone on the Internet. It was collected and uploaded by Ron Bowes, a security researcher with Skull Security. Although the information in the file is freely available online through search engines and Facebook's own directory, the organized list of names and identification numbers in it could make it easier for others to compile users' e-mail addresses, location or other data they have made available. The 2.8-gigabyte BitTorrent file also includes the programming code that Mr. Bowes used to scan the directory list. Facebook issued a statement via e-mail noting that the list of users' names is not a threat to those who are comfortable sharing publicly:

People who use Facebook own their information and have the right to share only what they want, with whom they want, and when they want. Our responsibility is to respect their wishes. In this case, information that people have agreed to make public was collected by a single researcher. This information already exists in Google, Bing, other search engines, as well as on Facebook. No private data is available or has been compromised. Similar to the white pages of the phone book, this is the information available to enable people to find each other, which is the reason people join Facebook. If someone does not want to be found, we also offer a number of controls to enable people not to appear in search on Facebook, in search engines, or share any information with applications. Facebook has said in the past that a large portion of its users change some of their privacy settings on the Web site. Some users choose not to change their privacy settings and happily share personal images and content with the whole Web. But some fail to change their settings due to a lack of understanding of the available options. Mr. Bowes said in a blog post that he decided to compile the list of user information and share it online to show that there is "a scary privacy issue" at play with the way people share their information with the rest of the Web through Facebook. It was not clear what his motives were for publicly sharing the the list online. In the past Mr. Bowes has also written about Facebook's privacy policy and the ease with which hackers can find personal information through the site. Facebook users who want to keep their information off of the wider Internet should go into the Facebook privacy settings tab and change the "Sharing on Facebook" options to "Friends only." Those who want to keep their profiles from being found in search engines like Google should also click the "Edit your settings" link at lower left and change the setting for "Public Search.
